Shortly before his death my father gave me an old shoebox filled with postcards.

These cards, several hundred of them, were sent by members of my family to one another when they lived in New York City's outer boroughs. Sent between 1905 and 1915, the postcards, and the messages on them, provide a unique glimpse into early twentieth-century urban life.

Old Al's Cards is a Drupal site configured to easily manage the display of these cards.

Vale Cemetery, in Schenectady NY, is an exceptional example of the nineteenth century rural cemetery movement and contains many graves of both regional and national interest. A registered non-profit (your donations are tax deductible!) the board was seeking not only to raise awareness of Vale but to more clearly market burial plots, raise funds and attract volunteers.

Although Vale had an existing website it had been languishing for several years and it was determined that an entirely new site was required. Due to the need for a variety of people to edit the content it was decided that a CMS was in order. For budgetary, among other, reasons a proprietary solution was ruled out and Drupal became the logical choice.

Site features include:

  • An easily edited events calendar.
  • A weblog (the "New at Vale" section).
  • A photo gallery allowing registered users to upload a categorize photos.
  • Articles can be easily printed, emailed or shared.

420 Summit was responsible for all aspects of the project and is proud to host the site as our way of contributing to the preservation of this unique resource.
